Denmark's History on Google Maps

1001 Stories of Denmark

The Heritage Agency of Denmark has produced a great Google Map of famous stories from Danish history.

It is possible to explore the stories by location or by theme. The themes include Industry, Artists, Architecture amongst many others. The site also includes a time-line so you can also explore the stories by date.

There are other features to navigate the stories by popular stories and popular places. You can even download all the points of information in KML or GPX format.

Maps of the Nashville Flood

Tennessee Department of Transport: Smartmap

The Tennessee Department of Transport's Smartmap uses Google Maps to show weather-related road conditions, construction/incidents, camera images and message signs for the state.

If you zoom in on Nashville and select the 'Road Condition' option you can view the currently flooded roads and Nashville road closures.

Tennessean.com - Flooding Incidents Map

Nashville newspaper the Tennessean.com has created a Google Map to show incidents of the Nashville flood. The map shows the locations of shelters, missing person reports, fatalities and public transit cancellations.

Staff of the Tennessean.com are working to keep the map up-to-date.

NOAA: Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service

You can view near real-time data for the Cumberland River in Nashville with the National Weather Service's Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. At the time of writing the NOAA shows the river level at nearly 51 feet (the major flood stage is from 45ft) and a flood warning is in place.

The site includes a Google Map showing the location of the gauge reading. If you click on the 'upstream gauge' or 'downstream gauge' links you can navigate to other gauge measurements of the river.

Mapping Canada's Fair Trade Retailers

TransFair Canada

TransFair Canada is a nonprofit Fair Trade certification organization. They are responsible for certifying that Canadian products bearing the Fair Trade certification mark meet international Fair Trade standards. TransFair Canada also works alongside community groups, companies, and individuals to promote Fair Trade Certified products.

One way in which FairTrade Canada hopes to promote fair trade retailers is through their 'Find a Retailer' Google Map. The map allows you to search for fair trade retailers by location and by product.

Retailers who aren't already listed in the Transfair Canada directory can add themselves to the map.

Real-Time Ships in the Gulf of Mexico

Sea-Seek.com

Sae-seek.com, the social sharing site for sailors and boat lovers, has added live real-time ship tracking to their Google Earth browser sailing simulations.

With the sea-seek.com Google Earth browser applications it is possible to sail, fly a helicopter or pilot a submarine at many different locations around the world. The application includes models of other ships plotted at their current real-time positions.

At the moment if you sail around the position of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico you can view a lot of ships that are presumably involved in efforts to cap the well.

Lost & Found on Google Maps

FinderBase.com

Finderbase.com allows anyone who has lost or found an item to post it on Google Maps.

The map interface of Finderbase.com allows you to zoom into a region and view all found and lost items. The map uses categorised map markers. So, for example, if you know you lost your keys in a certain neighbourhood you can zoom into the area on the map select the 'keys' category and quickly see if anyone has found your lost possession.

Finderbase.com is in the open beta testing stage. Which means you can use the site but that there may be changes to the service as it develops.
