Mibazaar has created a Google Map to commemorate US Law Enforcement Officers killed whilst serving the public.

The map shows where each Law Enforcement Officer killed in 2010 was based. You can also access information about each officer from the map sidebar where the data is sorted by state.

The data for the US Law Enforcement Memorial map comes from the Officer Down Memorial Page.

If you spot someone you fancy then why not share your joy with the rest of the world?

Floxx is a location based anonymous microblogging social network that lets you post both a location and description of an attractive person you have spotted. Each post is placed on a Google Map.

It is possible to search the map for hotties spotted by others in any university, city or search by post/zip code. If you don't like maps you can view all the latest posts in a 'feed view' similar to your Twitter stream.

Sunday Best

Today sees the start of a new weekly post on Google Maps Mania. Each week, in a 'Sunday Best' post, I plan to do a quick round-up of the four or five maps that have caught my eye on Google Maps Mania in the previous week.

Because Google Maps Mania has been a little quieter than normal over the holidays this week I have picked out just the three maps:

ForeFire

This Google Map from the French national research agency CNRS is very clever. The map simulates forest fires in Crete based on lots of data, including fuel, roads and elevation.

HMSG Spiral Map

This rather beautiful map of the Capital District of New York is one of the best sound-maps that I've seen.

GE Flight Simulator (0.4)

GE Flight Simulator is a very realistic flight simulation game that uses the Google Earth plugin. If you like flying games then you will love this.

How to Find An Open Starbucks

If, like me, you are in desperate need of coffee today you should use the Starbucks Finder which displays all the Starbucks, worldwide, that are currently open on a Google Map.

These three Google Maps based, smart phone friendly, store finders, all come from the same developer:
  1. A Starbucks finder - that shows Starbucks that are currently open (Worldwide)
  2. A Tim Hortons coffee finder - (Canada & US), and
  3. A Skating Rink finder - (Canada Only)

All three apps feature click-to-call and auto-positioning based on your current location. The Starbucks app is also sensitive to the current time and time zone.

If you don't have a smart phone don't worry all three maps also work on your desktop computer.
