Loving You is Easy with Google Maps

Tiffany & Co - Love is Everywhere

You might not be able to afford Tiffany diamonds for the special one in your life but you can share your love with this Google Map from the self proclaimed 'world's premier jeweler'.

To share your favourite romantic locations you just need to click on the 'Share your love' button and place the heart shaped map marker on the correct spot on the map.

If you are single and have no romantic love to share you can browse through the hundreds of romantic locations added by other users in preparation for the next time you date. You never know if you find the right location you might then be able to add your marker to the 'I Just Made Love' Google Map.

I Just Made Love Map

If you've just made love and you want to shout about it add yourself to this Google Map. This mashup uses Google Maps to show the locations in the world where people have just made love.

You can add your own marker to the map by right clicking on the map, choosing 'indoors' or 'outdoors' and leaving a comment. The map is available in a number of languages (you can set a language by clicking on the appropriate set of panties at the top right of the screen).

2011 Tornado Damage - Before & After

2011 Tornado Damage - Before and After

Using aerial imagery from the NOAA and from Google Maps I've started putting together a series of before and after comparison views of the damage caused by the 2011 tornadoes.

The comparison tool uses a slide control that you can drag to compare the post-tornado imagery from the NOAA with the pre-tornado imagery from Google Maps.

Tornado Damage Aerial Imagery

NOAA - 2011 Tornado Damage Imagery
The NOAA has released aerial imagery of the damage caused by this year's high tornado activity in the US.

Here is a location in Birmingham as seen in Google Maps and in the new aerial imagery from the NOAA:

Using Google Map it is possible to browse the uploaded imagery by location. If you click on one of the red square overlays on the map you can select to view the aerial imagery for that location in either low or high resolution.

New York's Music Taste on Google Maps

What Song Are You Listening to NYC?

Tyler Cullen, a student film-maker at the School of Visual Arts, created an interesting video of New Yorkers answering the question "What song are you listening to?"

Whatsongnyc were so inspired by the concept that they have travelled around New York and asked the same questions at a number of locations. They have now embedded the videos from each location on a Google Map.

Using the map you can find out what people are listening to at Grand Central Station or at Times Square. If you click on a location you can play the video from that location directly on the map.

Death Inequality on Google Maps

Her bliver du ældst

Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet has created a Google Map to highlight death inequality in the country.

As in many countries, where you live in Denmark can affect how long you live. For example, in Hørsholm Kommune the average age of death is 80 years old whilst in Lolland the average age of death is five years less at 75 years old.

Ekstra Bladet has created a choropleth map to highlight the average age of death in each Danish municipality. The redder the shade then the lower the life expectancy in that area. If you live in an area shaded green then you have a better chance of having a long life.
