First Google Map using the Google Buzz API

GeoMeme

GeoMeme is the first Google Maps mashup I've seen to use the Google Buzz API.

GeoMeme is a fun way to measure and share real-time local Twitter (and now Buzz) trends on a Google Map. Using the map it is possible to view Tweets from any location in the world. Positive Tweets are streamed on the left of the map and negative Tweets from that location are streamed on the right.

I can inform you that at the time of writing Love is beating Hate in New York.

Google Maps Adds Buzz Layer

Google have added a Buzz layer to Google Maps. If you select 'Buzz' from the 'More' drop down menu in Google Maps you can now view the latest real time updates posted to Google's microblogging service.

The new layer lets you view the latest geo-tagged comments made to Buzz. The benefits of viewing near real-time comments on Google Maps may not always be apparent but the new layer should prove really interesting when locations are in the news.

For example, if you zoom into the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano in Iceland at the moment you should be able to pick up a few recent photographs of the volcanic eruption posted by users to Buzz.

Google Buzz on Google Maps

Google Buzz Map

A lot of you have probably been enjoying the Buzz layer in Google Maps for Mobile. It is also possible to view the Buzz layer for Google Maps on your home computer.

Click here to load the Google Maps for Mobile map in your browser. Then choose 'Buzz' from the 'Layers' menu (bottom left corner). The map will then display the buzzes around your current location.

If you want to check out the latest buzzes in other locations simply pan the map to another location or use the search box to zoom to another location.

For Winter Olympics fans here's the current Buzz in Vancouver and in Whistler.
