6,500 Aerial Photos of the Australian Floods

Above Photography Map of the Queensland Floods

Above Photography have used Google Fusion Tables to create a Google Map that displays aerial photographs of the damage caused by the flooding in Queensland, Australia.

The map includes over 6,500 aerial photographs of the Brisbane suburbs and Rockhampton when the flooding was at its peak, as well as imagery from the Lockyer Valley.

Real-time Alerts with Google Maps

This live Google Map from the Emergency and Disaster Information Services (EDIS) in Hungary shows the latest earthquakes, volcano eruptions, floods and other disasters around the world. The map also shows the major oceanic rifts and transform faults.

If you click on any of the mapped emergencies and disasters you can click through to view more details on the incident. Beneath the map there is also detailed information about earthquake and volcano activity around the world, as well as news of Earth approaching objects in the next 30 days, tsunami information, geomagnetic storms and the currently mapped emergencies.

Ocotillo Earthquakes on Google Maps

Mibazaar Earthquakes Map

Octillo Ca has been hit by a number of earthquakes over the last couple of days. Mibazaar's Earthquake Map shows over 50 quakes hitting to the south-east of the Californian town.

Mibazaar's map uses data from the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program. The map animates through the latest earthquakes recorded from the USGS and shows earthquakes that have recently occurred throughout the world.

Iowa Flooded on Google Maps

The University of Iowa has used Google Maps to create a number of flood inundation maps for Iowa. So far they have created maps for Iowa City, Waterloo and Charles City.

Users of the map can use a slide-control to adjust the river’s flow and height and view the predicted flood effect directly on the map. The maps also include a risk calculator that allows you to calculate the risk of specific areas being flooded.

This Google Map mashup animates through the 20 most earthquake vulnerable cities in the world. The data for the map comes from Forbes.com.

The cities are chosen not necessarily for the chance of an earthquake hitting but take into account factors such as building frailty, potential for landslides and fires, and the rescue, fire-fighting and life-saving medical abilities of local authorities.
