Where Street View Fears to Tread

There are still quite a lot of gaps in Street View's coverage around the world. Luckily a number of other providers have created their own Google Maps based Street View applications to try and plug these gaps.

China - with City8

In China City8 have created extensive interactive 360 degree panoramas in 45 of the country's biggest cities.

MapJack

As well as providing Street View type imagery in the USA, Canada, Singapore and Sweden Mapjack has also ventured where Google Street View has so far feared to tread. MapJack has great coverage in Malaysia, Thailand and Puerto Rico.

Norc

Norc has great coverage in central and eastern Europe, including in Poland and Austria, where Google's Street View cars have yet to drive.

Win Win with Google Maps

Go Uniqlo

Clothing Store Uniqlo are giving Malaysians three chances a day to win an item of clothing with this imaginative Google Maps game.

To play the game you need to create a clothing trail. To do this you simply need to enter a location. A trail will then be created from your location to Kuala Lumpur. The trail consists of a number of photographs of worldwide destinations and items from the Uniqlo range.

If you click on any of the items of clothing you can read details about the clothes and, if you are lucky, you might also find that you have won the selected item. Unfortunately for the rest of the world the game is only open to Malaysian citizens.

This isn't the first time Uniqlo have used Google Maps to promote its brand. Last year Uniqlo created a stunning video and Google Maps synchronisation. Unfortunately the map seems to have taken a dive into the dead-pool, but you can still watch this video of the map in action:

All of Kuala Lumpur on Google Maps

MasMap-Online

Masmap overlays very detailed map tiles on top of Google Maps. So if you need a really detailed map of Kuala Lumpur you should use Masmap.

Masmap also includes all the normal Google Map views (map, satellite, hybrid, terrain) and an OpenStreetMap view. However if you use the Masmap view you have access to thousands of interactive points of interest. The POIs include churches, restaurants, hotels, shops etc.

Masmap also includes options to view Panoramio photos on the map and the option to search for a point of interest, a street or an area in Kuala Lumpur.
